Hey there, and welcome to Do Stuff Outdoors! This site is primarily an adjunct to my YouTube channel, a place to post more in-depth “trip reports” from the hikes featured there. If you found this site before the YouTube channel, I encourage you to check it out (and subscribe, if you’re so inclined)! Most posts here begin with an embedded video—some posts detailing multiday hikes might have an introductory paragraph or two before the videos.
Do Stuff Outdoors’ purpose is twofold: 1) to catalog my experiences in the wild for others to learn from and enjoy, and b) to inspire others to do stuff outdoors! I like to think of my videos as less about me and more about the environments through which I’m hiking. Backpacking. Exploring. All of those and more.
Sometimes plans change on a whim, and it’s difficult to research things properly when there are only a couple of hours before it’s boots on the ground! (I switched to trail runners: most of my boots are good for up to 10 mi at a time, but after that, it’s blister city.) Even in those (rare) cases, I still try to learn something about the trail, the terrain, and the history of wherever I end up.
Even if you choose not to subscribe to my YouTube channel, thank you for checking things out here, and who knows? Maybe someday, somewhere, we’ll cross paths on the trail.
Do Stuff Outdoors. Half exploration. Half explanation.
A word about post dates
To maintain some semblance of temporal order, I backdate each post to the first day of that particular adventure. (That’s what the little hiking boot symbol [🥾] in the post meta represents.)
